Galveston Island Tours Debuts Electric Shuttle Tours

Soon, locals and tourists in Galveston will be seeing a peculiar vehicle running silently through the streets. The solar-paneled electric vehicle, which is part limousine golf cart, and part shuttle bus, is a wonderful and inexpensive way to tour specific parts of the island’s most attractive areas without any carbon emissions to harm our island’s beautiful environment.

What: The Electric Shuttle Tour bus begins taking its first tours

When: Saturdays, December 11 & 18, 10:30 a.m.

Where: Tickets available at Bishop’s Palace, 1402 Broadway or charge ahead by calling Pamela Petty at 409.765.8687

Tour Destination: Galveston Island Tree Sculpture Tour

Admission: $15. Electric Shuttle Bus seats about 12 people at a time.

Galveston Island Tours is a subsidiary of Galveston Historical Foundation. “The electric vehicle is part of GHF’s continued move toward greater environmental responsibility,” said GHF Project Coordinator Matt Pelz. “Another of its advantages is that it’s extremely quiet. The tour guide can speak to the passengers without difficulty being heard.” Galveston Island Tours Director Pamela Petty said that this tour would be different from others. “These tours will be topic-specific, more tailored and more intimate. Passengers will be able to get much better photos due to the design of the vehicle. We intend to develop more tours, including a Storm Stories tour and an East End Architecture tour, as we move forward in 2011.”
