Galveston Historical Foundation presents
first in 2011 series of Green Training Program February 17

Galveston Historical Foundation begins the 2011 Green Training Programs on February 17 at 11:30am in the courtroom of the 1861 Custom House. Amanda Tullos, registered architect and LEED accredited professional, will present the first program of the series, “An Introduction to the Living Building Challenge”.

Tullos leads the Green Building Service's (GBS) Houston office and is President and founder of Living Paradigm, a non-profit organization working to form a low-income salvaged materials housing program in Houston.

As a senior consultant at GBS, Amanda directs the sustainable design efforts for a variety of project types that include higher education, retail, commercial office, civic and municipal facilities. Under her direction, project teams work collectively to pursue high-performance design strategies along the most appropriate path relative to their construction budget and schedule.

Amanda has both design expertise and a deep passion for being part of the Texas green building movement. Active in Houston's sustainable community, she is a founding Executive Committee member and the 2009 Volunteer and Green Event chair for the Gulf Coast Green Symposium on Building. Amanda also served as co-chair for the AIA Houston Committee on the Environment (COTE) and currently serves as the COTE regional team leader for the Gulf Coast and Southeast regions. Amanda has been involved with the local US Green Building Council (USGBC) chapter since its inception, and recently served on the Board of Directors. She has worked with the City of Houston to clarify reused materials within the Building Code and helped facilitate a partnership with Brigid's Place and the City to win a grant for the City to start the Reuse Warehouse, a reclaimed materials warehouse donating building materials to non-profits.

While the programs are geared towards designers, contractors, and professional builders, anyone interested is invited to attend. Admission is free. Call (409)765-3423 for reservations.
