Author Mary Remmers will sign copies of her new book, “Galveston’s Oldest Residence: The 1838 Michel B. Menard House,” during a reception at the Menard House from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, April 11. The home is located at 1605 33rd Street. There is no cost to attend the event. Copies of Remmers’ book will be available for sale and visitors can enjoy free hors d’oeuvres and refreshments as they take self-guided tours of the beautifully restored home.The house was built in 1838 by Menard, one of the founders of Galveston. The current owners have spent years researching, repairing, and reconstructing the house. It has been furnished with furniture that was popular on the East Coast at the time of the house's construction and first occupancy.
