Matt Harlan to Perform at Galveston Historical Foundation’s St. Joe’s Listening Room

Acclaimed Singer-songwriter Matt Harlan to Perform at Galveston Historical Foundation’s St. Joe’s Listening Room

Acclaimed Houston singer-songwriter Matt Harlan will perform at the 1859 St. Joseph’s listening room on December 10th, 8 p.m. at 2202 Avenue K. Tickets are $10 and available online, at the door the night of the show, or by calling 409-765-3410.

If there's a performer today that embodies the oft-applied moniker of "songwriter's songwriter" it's Houston favorite, Matt Harlan. Born and raised in Texas, Harlan soaked up the richness of the state and its song-smiths while bouncing between its big cities and small towns. He will be performing songs from his debut album "Tips & Compliments" as well as selections from his soon to be released follow-up album.

Matt’s latest album debuted at #1 on the Euro Americana Charts and he has won awards from the Billboard World Songwriting Contest, American Songwriter Magazine, Wildflower Arts & Music Festival and the Snowbird Mountain Music Festival. Harlan is a Regional New Folk winner at the Kerrville Folk Festival and has been selected as the 2011 Troubadour at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. He was also featured this year along with folk luminaries such as Lyle Lovett, Denice Franke, Robert Earl Keen, Guy Clark and Nanci Griffith in the documentary, “For the Sake of the Song” celebrating the legendary Houston listening room, Anderson Fair.

The concert venue, St. Joseph's, is the oldest German Catholic Church in Texas and the oldest wooden church building in Galveston and was built by German immigrants in 1859. Now de-sanctified and managed by Galveston Historical Foundation, the gothic revival church is distinguished by its elaborately detailed coffered wooden ceiling, delicately painted wooden sanctuary, original pews and hand-carved altars. GHF preserves the building as a museum and makes it available as an event venue.
