Preservation Resource Center Establishes Recovery Wish List on Amazon.com

Matt Farragher, GHF staff at the foundation’s Preservation Resource Center (PRC), has announced an easy way for interested Galvestonians to help rebuild the library and other supplies that were extensively damaged in the storm surge from Hurricane dIke. Located in the 1861 Custom House, GHF’s headquarters, the PRC is GHF's direct educational link to the Galveston community and its primary resource for those interested in learning more about history and historic preservation here on the Island. Islanders who wish to help restore this resource may now do so a book or two at a time in response to a Wish List posted on Amazon.com.

The PRC contained individual property files on local structures, building surveys, product information, historic maps, preservation magazines and a library on topics ranging from local and state history to architecture and historic preservation in general. Many of the books in our library were saved, but unfortunately we lost nearly our entire Galveston and Texas history collections and other valuable resources.

Those interested in helping by purchasing a book from our list can visit Amazon.com and search for our Wish-List, or click on this link for a direct connection:

Due to the devastation wrought by IKE we need to rebuild the PRC from the ground up, and books are just the beginning. We will also be in need of numerous other items needed to run the office. For more information, contact Matt Farragher at matt.farragher@galvestonhistory.org, or (409) 750-9108.
