Galveston Historical Foundation will offer a walking tour of the 1885 East End Fire Zone on Saturday, November 12 at 11 a.m.
The tour is $10 and begins on the corner of 16th and Post Office Street.

While most are familiar with the Great Storm of 1900, few know of the fire of 1885. Devastating 42 city blocks of prime real estate beginning in the heart of the East End National Historic Landmark District, the fire would continue heading south across Broadway before burning itself out. Participants of the tour will see firsthand the impact of the 1885 fire on architectural styles seen in the East End as well as numerous Victorian homes built during the construction boom that would follow the fire from 1885-1895.
Tom Green, a member of GHF’s Preservation Outreach Committee, will serve as the guide. Registration in advance can be made by calling 409-765-3424; day of registrations will be cash only.
For reservations or more information, please contact Matt Farragher at 409-765-3424 or matt.farragher@galvestonhistory.org.
