Code Compliance Assistance Fund
This program was begun in 2006, and made possible through a generous contribution from the Harris and Eliza Kempner Fund. Low-to-moderate income families who have code violations (or conditions that could be considered code violations) can apply for up to $7,000 in repairs to their home. A committee reviews the applications, and GHF staff collects bids, supervises the work, and pays the contractors directly. During 2006, GHF was able to spend $100,000 to assist 16 families make necessary repairs to their homes. GHF also received a generous grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, to help administer this program.
