GHF 2010 Annual Meeting

Galveston Historical Foundation’s Annual Meeting Set for July 23 at Ashton Villa

Galveston Historical Foundation’s executive director Dwayne Jones and outgoing president David Bowers will lead the organization’s annual meeting on Friday, July 23 in Ashton Villa’s ballroom, 2328 Broadway. The event begins at 5:30 with hors d’oeuvres and libations. Dress is “Island Casual.” The event is open to all members of Galveston Historical Foundation. Memberships will be available for purchase at the door. For the slate of proposed officers, click here. To view the proposed amendments to the GHF bylaws, click here.

Press Release Addenda July 15, 2010: We regret there was an error in the listing of Stan Dehahonsaye's neighborhood association representation on the proposed slate of officers posted here. There will be an amendment at the annual meeting to change the name from Denver Court to Cedar Lawn.

The main order of business is the election of officers, directors and advisors for 2010-2011, along with an overview of GHF’s accomplishments over the past fiscal year. The annual meeting will include the “passing of the gavel” from outgoing board president David Bowers to incoming president Cheryl Vaiani, a GHF board member who has chaired Galveston County Historical Museum and Heritage Properties committees. Vaiani is an assistant professor at the Institute for the Medical Humanities at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB).

The meeting will also be the venue for a number of GHF awards recognizing volunteer service, including the President’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service, Outstanding Galveston Historic Homes Tour Volunteer, Outstanding Dickens on the Strand Volunteer, and the Spirit of GHF Award.

While refreshments are served both before and after the meeting, Brian Davis, GHF's Director of Preservation and Conservation Services, will sign copies of his new book "Lost Galveston," published by GHF and Arcadia Publishing.
