Lecture “Home Furnishings and Fabrics Before and After the Storm” to be Given at Menard House Tuesday, March 18
Galveston Historical Foundation will host another in its popular series of free Menard Lectures on Tuesday, March 18 at 5:30 at Galveston’s oldest residential dwelling, the Michel B. Menard House. The lecture, entitled “Home Furnishings and Fabrics Before and After the Storm,” will concentrate on how Galveston’s elegant pre-Great Storm interiors changed during the rebuilding efforts that came in the aftermath of the worst natural disaster in U.S. history.

Richard Slavin, the speaker, is a decorative arts consultant who specializes in period interiors, textiles, wallpapers and furnishings and is the author of many articles on textiles as well as the book Opulent Textiles: The Schumacher Collection.
The venue for the event is the Michel B. Menard House, Galveston’s oldest surviving residential dwelling, recognized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of the finest examples of historic preservation in the United States. The Menard House is furnished with museum-quality pieces from the Greek Revival period and is located at 1604 33rd Street in Galveston. The event begins at 5:30 with a reception. The lecture begins promptly at 6 p.m.
The Menard Lectures are free to the public; donations benefiting the Galveston Historical Foundation are accepted. Because seating is limited, reservations are required.
