The Galveston Historical Foundation will hold its 34th annual Historic Homes Tour May 3 and 4, and 10 and 11, 2008, celebrating the nationally recognized architecture of Galveston Island.

One of the most popular aspects of each year’s tour is the official artwork commissioned by Galveston Historical Foundation (GHF), prints of which are always available for sale at the event. For more than 20 years, GHF has commissioned Pam Heidt, a watercolorist, to paint the official artwork for the annual Homes Tour. With Heidt’s retirement after the 2007 tour, GHF is looking for a new artist to capture the diverse architecture featured on the annual tour.

GHF will conduct a juried art competition to select a new Homes Tour artist. The artist must reside within Texas, preferably in the Galveston/Houston area. The medium used should be suitable for printing and the artwork must be in full color. The artist’s style must be unique but may be similar to Heidt’s work. The artist should be comfortable with a collage format. The artist should be prepared to make a long-term commitment (a minimum of five years) to paint the artwork for Homes Tour and sign a contract to that effect. The artist should also be able to follow a timeline for completion and printing, and be available to sign bulk numbers of the printed artwork. After GHF’s jury selects the winning artist, the artist will have approximately two (2) months to produce the artwork for the 2008 Tour.

How to enter:

  • Artists need to paint a collage of the three (3) pre-selected Galveston properties, photos attached.
  • The artwork needs to be delivered to GHF, 502 20th Street Galveston, Texas 77550-2014 with complete contact information, including artist’s name, address, phone number(s), email address and a brief bio.
  • Entries will be received through end of day January 31, 2008 and judging will be completed by February 11, 2008, when the winner will be notified.
  • All entries will become the property of GHF. Attached is a sample of previous artwork by Pam Heidt.
