Paint Pals, Paint Partnership
Developed in 1980, these programs are underwritten by the Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church, and benefit Galveston's low-to-moderate income families. Paint Partnership provides the materials for homeowners, and the homeowner provides the labor. Paint Pals is a program where GHF organizes a group of volunteers to paint the exterior of an elderly or disabled person's home in one day. Students from Texas A&M University Galveston have been a tremendous help with this program for many years and Mario's Pizza on the Seawall donates lunch for all of the workers.
In August 2006, Kwal Paint donated the materials volunteers used to paint 1909 39th Street. We were able to use the GHF Code Compliance Assistance Fund to put a new roof on the house, and the Rehabilitation Incentive Grant Program to replace rotten siding and prepare the house to be painted. Special thanks go to Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church, the Harris and Eliza Kempner Fund and the Galveston Grants and Housing Department for making this job possible.
