Preservation Resource Center
GHF’s Preservation Resource Center provides the public with a clearinghouse for Galveston’s architectural history. The center offers historic property research, neighborhood information, and technical rehabilitation guidance. Located in the 1861 Custom House at 502 20th Street (GHF headquarters) the resource center is accessible Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays, for use by owners and prospective owners of historic properties, newcomers to Galveston, real estate agents, contractors, students, and preservation professionals. Please call (409) 765-7834, ext. 1027, to schedule an appointment.
Research and planning before beginning any rehabilitation are key to a successful and rewarding project. The PRC provides support services to owners and prospective owners of historic properties including analysis and suggested approaches to building rehabilitation, advice on restoration techniques and referrals to local architects, craftsman, and contractors.
The PRC also provides an opportunity to learn about Galveston’s rich cultural and architectural resources, as well as the amenities of island life. The PRC serves both educational and research purposes using audiovisual equipment and technology.
