$400,000 GOAL. YOUR PRESERVATION GIFTS MATCHED FROM NOW UNTIL MARCH 31, 2019!
The Heritage Preservation Challenge fuels GHF’s mission to preserve and revitalize the architectural, cultural and maritime heritage of Galveston, but so much more:
- The Challenge is collaboration. Your support triggers matching dollars as our partner foundations team with GHF members and friends.
- The Challenge is community. It allows us to improve the community for Galvestonians and all visitors.
- The Challenge is impact. Your gifts power preservation projects that are important and lasting.
By March 1, 2019, we plan to raise $200,000 from members and friends, which is then matched by outside foundations. That $400,000 total strengthens GHF’s annual operating budget, ensuring support for its entire mission to preserve and revitalize the architectural, cultural and maritime heritage of Galveston Island.
MISSION IN MOTION 2018
Preservation: Ten projects are underway, including three relocated houses at 18th and Market and a project with GISD to create affordable housing for teachers.
Hendley Green and Hendley Row: The Strand’s original beginning continues improving and delivering heritage events and community gatherings. New GHF administrative offices to soon return. Sneak-peak at Dickens on The Strand Member’s Club.
Depot on Market: West Market improvements continue and our 1904 Depot is hosting events and preparing for its important role in the Galveston History Project.
Tall Ships Galveston: Two years of planning and a huge volunteer effort delivered the first tall ships festival ever in the Gulf, showcasing ELISSA and Galveston’s maritime history.
GHF President Alicia Cahill: “the Challenge is a great idea by George Mitchell and quickly supported by the Wortham Foundation and others to make everyday preservation in Galveston happen. It works for all who love Galveston’s rich history. When better to give then when that gift is matched?”
