Brush off your bowlers and prepare your petticoats as Galveston Historical Foundation presents the 46th annual Dickens on The Strand. Held the first weekend in December, the annual festival is a holiday tradition with great family programming, live entertainment, special events and more. Dickens on The Strand, based on 19th-century Victorian London, features parades, non-stop entertainment on four stages, new additions like Tiny Tim’s Play Land, Shopkeeper Skills Village, and roaming characters throughout the festival. Costumed vendors peddle their wares from street stalls and rolling carts laden with holiday food and drink, Victorian-inspired crafts, clothing, jewelry, holiday decorations, and gift items.

PLEASE NOTE: Tickets are non-refundable. The festival is open rain or shine. GHF is not responsible for independent transactions between visitors and vendors. We are committed to making Dickens on The Strand special needs accessible. If we can assist with arrangements, please contact us at 409-765-7834 in advance of your visit.

Pets and ice chests are not allowed. Scooters, skateboards, rollerblades, skates, Segways and other recreational “wheels” are forbidden. Guests bringing in costume weapons and props must have them secured will be asked to go through additional screening.

  • Actually I learned about Dickens on the Strand through the church I attended in the late 80’s on a field trip we took when I was in my 20’s.I could’nt help but remember the first time and only time I tried roasted chessnuts .Fond Memories

  • Just moved to Texas from Florida. Have traced our Murdock genealogy from Scotland to Ireland to America. Our Murdock/h’s were weavers and worked in the cotton mills of Galveston. We are also connected to the Murdoch Bath House and I am continuing research on that branch. For years I havce dreamed about visiting Galveston to do my research first hand and so excited about finally getting to do that.

  • Forgot to say I have also dreamed about attending Dickens on The Strand for many years and can’t believe I am actually going this year. Especially excited about meeting the Dickens descendants. What a trip! THANK YOU Father Christmas!!

  • I have on my schedule to come see Dickerson on the Strand as it looks like something out of a Hallmark movie like they have for Christmas Hallmark Movies. My husband and I have watched the Christmas movies together for years. We have been married for 32 years almost 33 lol. After always watching the movies together we were looking for a place we could go at Christmas that would look like a Christmas Town. Since we are old now and are 67 and 64 we started looking on the internet for such town. When we realized it would be as close as Galveston we were excited, so I told my older sister that is 79 this year in November that she should meet us there. So we are so so excited to come and see what this is all about and experience all we can. We love the Galvez and spa as we went to the spa last year and it was really really nice. • When I was a little girl our little town of Evergreen Colorado put on this play…I will never forget it and often dream of reliving the opportunity to experience this time honored experience.

  • I have had the pleasure to go to “Dickens on the Strand” for over 20 years and absolutely look forward to it every year! ❤️I am a Theatre teacher and love to dress up, especially in Victorian costumes! I love how all the decor and festivities get us so excited for the Christmas season…my favorite time of year! We usually just participate on Sat, and have never had the opportunity to be invited to any other events. I feel it would be an honor and pleasure to be a VIP and part of the Member’s Club!!!

  • Have attended several years in a row now and wouldn’t miss it for anything!! Absolutely love donning the corset and petticoats! Amazing event!!

  • My kids and I planned last year to attend but unfortunately my marriage came to an end and our plans were put on hold. This year we decided we were going and pulled out all the outfits that had been planned for last year. It would be such a wonderful surprise to give them the VIP treatment. It’s been a year of change, taking on new adventures and loving each other. Whoever wins will have a wonderful time. And regardless we will be there this year!
    Merry Christmas

  • How will the winner be announced? I really hope I win as I have only ever experienced the strand part of Dickens, have never stayed in the Hotel Galvez or attended the soiree, or sunset dinner on the Alyssa. I do wish Dickens lasted longer than just one weekend though. It really is magical!

  • My family and I use to attend the Dickens on the Strand. We enjoyed dressing up and pretending to be Victorian-Galvestonians. Years passed, child grew up and Jobs changed. Would like to revisit once again to pretend and dress up.

  • Last time I went to this, I was in high school. Live about 4 hours away now, but would love to take my kids who are now in high school.
