This lecture will explore the different types of Historic Decorative Finishes on interiors and architectural surfaces, the techniques used to uncover and replicate them, and their importance in relation to preserving historic spaces.
The discovery and implementation of these finishes into a historic preservation plan is essential in retaining the artistic, aesthetic, and cultural significance of a building during a certain point in time and of the society from which they sprung.
We’ll discuss the typical process of uncovering these decorative finishes, their significance to the overall architecture, some of the challenges faced when restoring them, and how to better guide their reimplementation in a restoration project.
