===========ELISSA Captain's Log: 12 noon, Monday, July 27th, 2026===========OUTWARD BOUND A new face here, Captain JB Smith, having relieved Captain Ellers a couple of days ago shortly after ELISSA arrived in Savannah. Captain Ellers is now home relaxing after guiding the good ship through the intricacies of Galveston 250 with its many millions of viewers, the challenges of numerous port stops, the finesse of keeping a crew safe and enthusiastic, and the ability to keep Elissa sailing across all those sea miles through all kinds of weather. I say, along with all of you, I’m sure, “Bravo Capt Ellers. Well done!”Galveston Historic Seaport : Home of the 1877 Tall Ship Elissa four-day stay in Savannah was a complete success. Despite the heat bearing down on long, snaking lines of waiting boarders, no complaints were heard. Everyone delighted in being aboard, speaking with crew and experiencing just a touch of the ship's magic. Savannah’s visitor total was 6,718!First thing this morning, 2500 gallons of fuel were brought aboard. By 0800, gangways had been struck, lines singled up, and the river pilot was on deck. We were ready to cast off. Inbound container ship traffic delayed departure until a bit after 9, but then we were away. Hopes of sailing off the dock were stymied by a lack of wind. Nonetheless, we bid farewell to Savannah with a jib, some stays’ls, and fore and main lower tops’ls set, just catching a whisper of a breeze. The uniformed troops of Fort Jackson's Coastal Heritage Society saluted with cannon fire, which we, of course, returned in our much smaller way as we passed by.By noon the pilot had been discharged, and we were free of the channel southbound for a waypoint just off Cape Canaveral. The wind continues light. An all-hands muster is coming up to be followed by several safety drills. Progress is good at 8+ knots. Before long, the watches will be set.
