ABOUT GALVESTON HISTORICAL FOUNDATION

GHF was formed as the Galveston Historical Society in 1871 and merged with a new organization formed in 1954 as a non-profit entity devoted to historic preservation and history in Galveston County. Over the last sixty years, GHF has expanded its mission to encompass community redevelopment, historic preservation advocacy, maritime preservation, coastal resiliency and stewardship of historic properties. GHF embraces a broader vision of history and architecture that encompasses advancements in environmental and natural sciences and their intersection with historic buildings and coastal life and conceives of history as an engaging story of individual lives and experiences on Galveston Island from the 19th century to the present day.

  • Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I know that this is a lot of hard work for everyone involved in this process.
I thoroughly enjoyed the lecture by Kimber Fountain. I learned a few things about Galveston that I did not know. She was very entertaining and enjoyable to listen to.
I had wanted to do the Red Light tour but never got the chance. Maybe when this situation settles down I will. Thanks again

  • This is wonderful, but MOST confusing. Each time I tune in, it takes at least 5-10 minutes just to find the link to see the actual lecture. Then I can never find the archived versions of the ones I miss or the ones I miss the first few minutes of. And today’s obviously had someone loading or unloading a dishwasher or a coke machine in the background? PLEASE make the link to watch easier to find! Like something that says CLICK HERE TO VIEW. Most other links I do find just don’t work!
And now, here it is, time for the Historic Homes Tour. I am hesitant to buy a ticket because I am seeing so many glitches. I’ll be there trying, but I don’t think it’ll be easy.
Don’t get me wrong; I am LOVING what bits and pieces I can see. Just sad that I am missing so much.

    • Beth, thanks for the message. We will have it embedded on this page and our main page as well tomorrow. The best way to find it will be to visit our facebook account and click on the “video” section. We’ll start the feed 30 minutes in advance and will post direct links to it as well.

Please keep in mind that in many instances we’re dealing with audio and video being brought in from a lot of different locations and sources. We can’t always ensure that our participants wifi or your connection is going to be flawless. We’ll do our part to make sure it’s as smooth as possible and look forward to tomorrow’s virtual tours!

  • I really love these topics; however, I do not subscribe to Facebook. Can you make them available on youtube or a more accessible source. Thank you, Vivian Cromwell

    • I agree Vivian, I also do not subscribe to FaceBook and I see many friends discontinuing their subscription. With so many outlets these days there must be a way for them to post these informative stories without holding members constrained to a FaceBook subscription.

      • All presentations are also posted on this page. You don’t have to have a Facebook account to view the discussion. We are also adding them to your YouTube channel for viewing.
