Sleeping porches could be found all over Galveston in the first four decades of the 20th century, but their presence was not solely based on the desire for comfort during hot, steamy nights. ![]()
Our March Foundation Conversations welcomes architectural historian Margaret Culbertson as she explores the development and architectural variety of porches designed for fresh air sleeping across the nation. She will also assist in identifying many surviving examples in Galveston's historic houses.![]()

Incorporated in 1954, Galveston Historical Foundation is one of the nation's largest local preservation organizations.
